Domain-Specific AI Capabilities

Dictionairee Entry

Literal Meaning

Features of a model or product adapted for a particular field, such as legal, medical or financial work.

Buzzword Usage

Three abstractions with no example between them, which is what a capability claim looks like when the speaker would rather not commit to a task the buyer could go away and test.

Why It’s Fluff

  • Capability Without a Task: Naming a domain and a capability, and never a job it actually does.
  • Unfalsifiable by Design: No claim has been made that could be shown to be false.
  • House-Cleaning Reality Check: Like listing "domain-specific culinary capabilities" instead of saying you can make an omelette.

Reality Check

Love Island (Season 7): the challenge where islanders hold up boards assigning confident labels to one another, with no criteria stated and no way for any answer to be wrong.
